Gulf Shores

The first time we went there we took our pop-up camper and stayed at the State Park campground. It was just way too hot in the camper in the afternoons so from then on we rented a condo and a house on the beach for Spring Breaks and in August just before school started.

Our first night at Gulf Shores we stopped at a fish market, bought a few pounds of shrimp and a jug of wine. Once settled in we boiled the shrimp, then pealed and ate and drank wine until we had our fill. It became a traditional first night meal from then on.

Our neighbor to the east of us, when he found we were going to Gulf Shores, told us we needed to check out Wolf Bay Lodge for dinner. We got direction to it, like go north to the first road, go east until you see a sign pointing to Wolf Bay Lodge. We drove around for an hour and never found it. The next night we got some slightly better directions, part of which we were told it was out in middle of nowhere, but just follow the signs once we got going east on the first road north. This time we spotted the sign. It was weathered piece of wood about one foot square with the words "Wolf Bay" and a small arrow pointing south. We drove off into the piney woods over rickety bridges over swamps and bayous until we spotted another similar sign pointing east a ways further was another sign pointing south. We drove a short ways further until we dead ended at the water’s edge which turned out to be Wolf Bay.
